An engineer who inspected a boiler in a holiday apartment where two

children

died told a Greek court today that parts of it were missing and that the

carbon monoxide would have reached fatal levels within one minute of it

leaking.

Harry Rogers, who inspected the equipment at the Corfu apartment after

the

deaths of Christianne Shepherd, 7, and her six-year old brother, Robert,

said the leak was caused by a wired-out gas valve, a bypassed

thermostat,

the lack of a flue and chimney, and a gap between the family’s bungalow

and

the outhouse where the boiler was contained.

Two Thomas Cook employees are accused of neglecting to maintain the

boiler

which led to the deaths of the two children in October 2006.
