NOS mercury vaporstat is garbage...

I have a NOS honeywell 0-16 oz (probably the last version of the mercury style before the microswitch) which is completely innacurate. I read Mr. Gill's thread and plan to build his testing rig.
Problem is no easy way to adjust this model. Only way I can think of is to pull the spring out and fool with it until I get the proper tension.
Has anyone done this?

Is it possible
the scale is out of adjustment? Some of these have scales that you can slide after loosening two screws......All Steamed Up, Inc.
