steam header question

This steam header comes up then turns around the flue pipe.which horizontal pipe or header

needs to be 24" above waterline??There is 3 horizontal sections, last el is cut off in picture. The equalizer is tough to see in this pic,but its in the vertical section between the 2nd and 3rd elbow. Its undersized at 1".I know the piping should not be copper, and insulated-it was put in by others.

    The first horizontal pipe

needs to be 24" above the highest possible waterline. You probably don't have the required height, which is one of many reasons to have it redone correctly.

What make and model boiler is that?

    Wow.

I only have one question....How many problems do you have in this system? Water hammer, spitting vents, uneven heating, water surging.....

I Dont remember the brand ,approx 91,000 BTU - 283 sq ft EDR,and surprisingly no surging waterline,no spitting, some minor hammer on cold start.

    Hahaha

It would be 8 o'clock at night, every vent would be spitting water, mains hammering like a steel mill, and enough surging in the glass to make you slowly back out of the boiler room and run to your truck.
