no NationalGrid rebates for indirect HW on Steam Boiler

So I just got some rebate propaganda in the mail .. and then I checked out the website ...

NationalGrid, our local Gas Utility, provides rebates for indirect attached to HW Boiler .. but not steam :(

Additionally, a new steam boiler only qualifies for $500 but a new HW boiler qualifies for $1000

    Incentives to upgrade Steam systems

It's the mind-set of most engineers. They will advise to convert from steam to how water no matter the cost. Same thing with the design of the Federal Tax Credits. The boiler/furnace has to be around 95% efficiency. That's not available for Steamers (yet) so Nada. In Europe (I was told), governments mandated steam systems be converted to hot water.

Actually, I am surprised that NG provide a $500 incentive. Somebody did their homework. --Dave

    Most utilities

don't know what they're doing when it comes to steam heating systems. Same with the government. Neither one is our friend.

Boiler needs to be on their list though

I just went through one where the plain Smith atmospheric gas boiler got a rebate, $200.00 from Gas Network. The Smith 8 series with the gas burner was not on the list so it did not get the rebate even though it is more efficient of a boiler.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.
