foul odor at sink

i have a foul ordor comming form the bathroom sink and it has an overflow built into the sink i tried pouring bleach into overflow any other suggestions ??

Had that complaint many times,,,,
BTW- A bathroom sink, is called a "basin". ;-)
You can either remove the trap below & plug its outlet,, or stuff a wet-rag past the stopper-point(after the overflow converge point) to stop drainage from both in the P.O. plug (P.O. means ported-outlet).
Once you have done that, fill the basin up to the overflow-point(with HW), add a cup of bleach & stir-in to mix,,, then add a little more (hot) water to ensure it goes down the overflow throat and leave-it overnight.
