electronic water softeners

Hi all,

My father will be installing an oil fired hot water boiler with an integral domestic hot water loop.  His house's water comes from a well and would be considered hard water.  In the past he has had to run acid ( I think it was an acid) through the hot water loop to remove scale.

Because the house has a septic system he is leaning away from a salt based softener system.  He doesn't want the excess  water (flush water) going into his septic system.  I would say his septic field is only minimally performing as it is.

Anyway, because of this he is considering installing an electronic style water conditioner ( EZ Water Softener System or something like that). 

My question to you guys is do these systems work???  Any personal experience?  My father previously worked in a paper mill where they employed a similar system on some of their machines  .... but I'm still not convinced.   It seems too good to be true ..... and we all know about things that are too good to be true.

    My personal experience has been good.

    But that is just my experience.



    Don't have time to go deep and specific, but have employed them all over this country, and found that they do not work in Texas (glass water).



    Have him send a water sample to the manufacturer and see what their take on it is.



    They are not new and have been around forever.
