I need some different scenerios on why a boiler would sound like a popcorn machine and what a possible resolution would be.

    a little more information

Need to know a little more information.

Like what type of boiler? cast-iron, copper tube, stainless steel?

I can think of reasons for each style, just need to know which one and I will offer a few things.

Also, is your boiler a new install or has it been running OK and then all of a sudden it started?

    debris?

When water heaters do this it's usually ascribed to debris in the bottom of the tank.

    same section

if its a hot water boiler that popping sound can be from the supply and return being piped in the same boiler section. causing circulation only through that part of the boiler.that popping sound is the water boiling in the other sections

    Search this website

There is an article written about this that was posted in Reeves Journal. You can also find it on this website Dans article archives. I have had customers come to me with the same problem here in Alaska. The article was helpfull in supplying some answers.
