To spit or not to spit...

I'm sure I know the answer to this, but I can't seem to Google my brain very effectively any more...

On my system in PA, I have a Hoffmann 75 that doesn't like to close. It spits lot's of water and steam;  2 good whacks with a closed fist will get it to shut nice and tight.

I tried the cleaning it with warm white vinegar (what is that smell?), which turned the copper shell all sorts of nice shades, but hasn't cured the problem. The valve is about 4 years old, is it time to buy a new one? Time to change to a Gorton #2?

In the true knucklehead tradition, I've replaced it with a 3/4 plug. It's one of 5 vents on the system, so it won't be missed in the short term...

Good to hear from you, Alex

if it's the one I'm thinking of, change it to a Gorton #1.

    Tempus Fugit...

    Hey Frank!

It's been way too long. Life just flies by way too fast...

I don't even get to The Wall much these days...

The vent is the one in the 2nd floor bedroom, the end of the line so to speak. The one in the kitchen is operating fine. I also cleaned the 2 Gortons at the end of the main. Paint came right off, but they close cleanly now...

Boiler has been running well, though I am still getting the white powder on the top of the shell...

Hope you're doing well, and look forward to out next get together!

    Alex...
