pipe insulation ?

I am intersted in insulating my steam pipes in my basement i have read

this can be done with regular role type insulation used in walls i was

looking for some good advice on how to get this done what type to use

and the best way to secure to the pipe also i have read some good

articles on using 1" pipe insulation being the best i am on a budget

and already have several roles of insulation sitting in my garage but i

would love some feedback on how to get this done properly and equivelent to the 1" pipe insulation

  • steam pipe insulation

cut to fit, then use lots of duct tape, stuck to itself, and wound around the pipe..

this is not as "pro" looking as preformed pipe insulation, but will do in a pinch, although will probably need retaping every year.--nbc

    tape

would it be better if i used the more expensive reflective silver tape that seals ducts better then plain duct tape
  • silver tape?

only if the duct tape fails.--nbc
