Curious rad ratings?

I service an apartment bldg. full of these on a HW system. They are wrought-iron with CI headers top & bottom,,, the tubes are also hollow (through the headers) producing what I believe to be a "chimney" effect. The only writing on them says "Patented1924".

Any ideas?

    Radiator

No luck finding it in Dan's book, sorry Dave, it is a cool looking radiator though, whats with the pipe coming through the 5th tube from the left? is it there to show that the tubes are hollow? or does it serve another purpose, thanks

    odd radiator rating

Usually figure this style of radiator at 1 square foot EDR for each tube. If you have 12 tubes it would fiugre as 12 sq feet. You'll get approx. 170 BTU/sq. ft @180 degree water.

    It's in TLASH.
  • 5th tube from the left

Yes,, it is just a piece of pipe I stuck in there. :-)

As I mentioned, these tubes are open top & bottom.

Seems to be a "tube within a tube" heated water cascades down between the two different diameters, so I would think the EDR sizing would be taken from the exposed outside & inside(chimney) areas.

I see nothing of this design type in LAOSH or EDR.   :-)

Closest thing I can think of

would be the Crane radiators on page 14-16 of  "E.D.R.".

Any name on the one in the pic?

  • Frank,

I wish,,,,,, but no such luck. :-)

There must be 50 (at least) of these in that building.

Going back Monday so I`ll take a closer look at the others.
