Amtrol Indirect WH w/ Oil Steam Boiler

I have a new customer who has (2) Amtrol indirect fired water heaters installed using a oil fired steam boiler. Both water heaters are piped in parallel. Customers complaint is that both tanks have failed twice in 7 years. This will be the 3rd set replaced (under warranty)
Immediately upon arrival, I noted the following: supply & returns from the bottom of the boiler are piped directly to the water heaters without the use of a heat exchanger. Keep in mind that the indirect's tappings is located on the bottom on the tank.
I called Amtrol who stated that this installation is not recommended as the boiling hot water will cause the seals to fail on the water heater. Also, the use of a heat exchanger may help - but again, their product is not recommended for use with a steam system.
Suggestions to make this work long term.

Bump
I'm going to just give you a "Bump" so you message will go to the front and maybe one of the pros will then see it. I don't have much experience in the area you're asking about though the first thing that comes to mind is if it's too hot, couldn't you do a by pass or something like that to regulate the heat? I've attached an article which might be of help to you and give you some ideas.
