is it ok to use black pipe (vs. galvinized) for steam heating systems?

Black pipe IS the standard.0 -
No Galvanized!
As Nick said black pipe is the standard. Using galvanized pipe is frowned upon as the zinc plating flakes off (due to expansion and contraction) and plugs the small openings in the air vents.
