    Do you mean

a boiler that vents out the side of the house, not needing a chimney?

has a direct-vented Independence gas boiler, but it's an atmospheric type. Power gas burners in wet-base boilers deliver better thermal efficiency.

If the existing boiler is in good shape, a sidewall venting system can be added to it. Tjernlund and Field make these units. Follow their installation instructions to the letter.

If you go this way, you must exit the building at least a foot above the highest snow accumulation recorded in your area, for obvious reasons. Local Codes will also dictate how far away the vent must be from wall penetrations such as windows and doors.

Also, any sidewall venting system is more mechanically complex than a chimney. Moving parts WILL fail, which will increase servicing costs.

    local codes

building codes in my area did not allow a side vent on a residential application - i had to vent through the chimney. my current stack had a narrower than recommended flue diameter, so i installed a tjernlund D-3 draft inducer. works nicely.the point being, as steamhead mentions, you need to check with your customer's local building inspector on the power venting...
