Electric Gravity heating systems

Hi There,

I'm looking for some advice on electric gravity heating systems if possible (I think I'm in the right forum). I'm looking to purchase a house with Electric Gravity Heating and am a little confused about its operation and how I could potentially remove the system in place of a better system.

A lot of the information I have found on the net pertains to a steam gravity system using water and I can only assume that this system is similar with the exception it is powered via electricity? The house is 44 years old.

Some websites mention that the ducts could be wrapped in asbestos, is your experience is this quite common? How much of a task is it going to be to remove the gravity heating system in favour of a forced air system? Fortunately the house is in  need of some work and I can afford to make a mess putting in new ducts etc.

Many thanks.

Jon
