To Vaporize or Not To Vaporize

Hi Guys,

I am getting ready to do another one of our famous steam decentralization projects (drop a Giannani hx condensing boiler under a converter and let er rip), and am wondering how I could determine if i can successfully put the rest of the system on a vaporstat.  It is a school with about 25 classrooms that after my conversion will only be using steam for perimeter heat, and old Herman Nelson unit ventilators in teh individual classrooms to supplement the grid type radiant in the floor.  How can I determine if this is possible or desireable?

Thanks in Advance

Don

    Try it and see

Back down the boiler pressure until things start going cold, then investigate the cold areas to see if you have bad traps, valves etc. Fix them then back down some more, until you find the lowest pressure that it will run at. If that's in Vaporstat range, install the Vaporstat.

    Thanks Steamhead

Pretty common sense huh?  Not an ancient system, so maybe is there anything I should look for that tells me "no way can you vaporstat this" or is it going to be totally trial and error?

Oh....and I should add (or maybe not)

That in the last 6 years, we have cut approx 2 million btu's out of the steam system with decentralizing (dropping the mod-cons down next to converters) so the system is at about half the design capacity now.
