condensing boiler application

I have a single pipe steam system fired with a burnham pxg 4005 boiler with 140,000btu input and an 87500 btu output.  Can I replace it with a condensing type boiler?

    Condensing Boilers

Never heard of a condensing steam boiler .....Condensing Boilers are only practical for low temperature hydronic heating .. They need low temperature return water to condense fuel combustion .. The high efficiency ratings look enticing.......... but if the the system is deigned hi temperature, and a condensing boiler is added , the unit would need to run at a higher temperature to meet the load. The efficiency will drop back to the mid 80's levels so the added expense of buying one is a waste .. Now you have a Steam system which is another animal ...I don't think they make one or see the need to build one , unless you can put your system in enough vacuum to produce steam at 120 degrees ..

There was an error rendering this rich post.
