does anyone know where I can find a copy of Frank Gerety's book (online or hardcopy):
Gerety, Frank. How to Get the Best From One-Pipe Steam. New York: NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, 1987 (New York: City Books (1987), 1 Centre Street, Rm 2223, New York, NY 10007.)
Amazon shows it as "limited availability" http://www.amazon.com/How-get-best-one-pipe-steam/dp/B00072QSDE
FYI .. I did find this very interesting paper:
ENERGY SAVINGS IN ONE-PIPE STEAM HEATING SYSTEMS FITTED WITH HIGH-CAPACITY AIR VENTS Prepared for
THE NEW YORK STATE ENERGY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY - September 1994
.. oh it looks like this may have already been in The Wall archives .. but without a link to the document .. here is the old Wall thread: http://www.heatinghelp.com/forum-thread/124247/Interesting-NY-research-study-on-venting-one-pipe-steam-systems
Thanks.

Not on the 22nd floor or in the City Store on the ground floor.0 -
great ..
If anyone has a hardcopy to loan .. I'm happy to scan it and make it available to all assuming copyrights allow this, and/or with permission of Mr. Gerety. Since it looks like a NYC document, copyrights should be clear.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

sidebar: NYSERDA paper...
I have read through the study (linked in original post) .. regarding the ability of main venting to save fuel .. what disappoints me the most is that they have all this fabulous data however absolutely NO MENTION of venting capacity they used nor how they determined appropriate capacity.
I'm considering giving them a call to see if they will sponsor another study for next year's heating season .. is there anyone else in NYC that would be interested in collaborating on an updated study based on the new work by Gill & Pajek and the ability to utilize iButton Dataloggers .. what may be nice is to secure the same exact building as the 1993 study assuming little has changed.

Gerety book search update ...
NYC Bookstore sent me to Dept of Buildings (212-566-5000) where I left a message for someone named Lisa, in DOB Customer Service division ..
Then I called NYC HPD (212-863-6300) directly and spoke with someone named Eric in their "press" division .. he seemed generally interested in being of assistance and said he would follow-up tomorrow by phone or email.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

Burnham Book
JPF - I've read the New York study but believe I have deleted it when I switched computers. The only beneficial items were of vent diagrams on the last 5 pages - Page 42 -47 which I saved. Do you have a copy of the Burnham Heating Helper? - Rod

As far as I know,
the book is long out of print. Frank wrote it in '87 for H.P.D. and holds the copyright. I haven't heard from Frank in years, nor has anyone else I know who knew him. We don't know whether he's still with us or not. He vanished.Retired and loving it.0
