Main Vents?

I have a one pipe system with 7 radiators on it, I do not have any main vents, is this ok?  It seems to take a while for the radiators to get hot and they scream like a banshee on a cold night.  I have replaced all the vents on the radiators themselves and they all work but should I have main vents installed?

    I'd vent the mains - that way steam gets to all radiators at about the same time, and you are not asking the radiator vents to also vent the mains.
