British Steam Car

The British Steam Car, set a new world record in August at Edwards Air Force Base, California.  The new world record  measured-mile was 139.843 mph and measured-kilometer was 148.308 mph, these being set in two consecutive days.

The previous measured mile record was 127.659 mph set in 1906 by Fred Marriott in a Stanley Steamer.

The car has 12 LPG boilers and uses 1,000 liters every 25 minutes.  It also has over 3 kms of tubing and weighs 3 tonnes.

    nonsense?

Hello:  It may be nonsense, but I think I remember reading the original steam race car never made it because aerodynamics were poorly understood and the car literally took off, (not a good thing with no wings!)
