broken richardson air vent
can i use a #76 Hoffman air vent to replace a Richardson air vent on a 2 pipe vapor vac. system.
You;ll probably need more than one vent to replace that. Not sure what the venting rate is on the Richardson, but I bet you'd need more for your system. What you need to do is measure all your mains to calculate the size vents you need. This piece of material has all the calcs needed: http://www.heatinghelp.com/products/Books/5/146/Balancing-Steam-Systems-Using-a-Vent-Capacity-Chart-by-Gerry-Gill-and-Steve-Pajek
This one would also be a great idea: http://www.heatinghelp.com/products/Books/5/68/Lost-Art-Of-Steam-Heating0
If you want to throw the old vent away, please send it to me instead, I'd love to have one for my shelf.0
I called valve manufacturer and they recommend a Hoffman # 75 for the two pipe steam system. it seams to be working all rads. on that line are now heating. i,ll know better in a few days or so0
If that new main vent hisses a lot, you may need to add more venting there. Keep an ear open for it next time the heat cycles on.0
