Gorton Venting Recommendation Worksheet

Since everyone here gives so much, I wanted to try to give something back.
I put together an Excel sheet for venting recommendations based on Gerry Gill's data available for sale here: http://www.heatinghelp.com/products/Books/5/146/Balancing-Steam-Systems-Using-a-Vent-Capacity-Chart-by-Gerry-Gill-and-Steve-Pajek
I did work with Gerry a bit to make sure that everything seemed to work as he would expect.
Have a look and let me know DIRECTLY if there are any problems rather than clutter the Wall with bugs and such, I will repost version improvements and summary of bugs as they are found.
FYI, I've posted both the latest versino of Excel format (.xlsx) as well as the more standard (.xls) .. both files should be identical.
Happy Venting!
Hmm .. that's unfortunate ... The Wall doesn't allow posting of Excel Files I guess .. I have put them up here:
XLS: http://www.ypgmedia.com/heatinghelp/heating_system_calculations.xls

now includes Hoffman 1-A vent recommendations
After reading Boilerpro's recent article ( http://www.heatinghelp.com/article/11/Hot-Tech-Tips/1551/Taking-Another-Look-at-Steam-Boiler-Sizing-Methods-by-Dave-Boilerpro-Bunnell ), I have added Hoffman 1-A vent recommendations to the Excel Worksheet posted above.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

thanks for the worksheet
I'll have to give it a try one day (after I inventory what I have . . .)0 -

my daily affirmation!
i like this policy for venting: calculate by whatever means the number of main vents you need plus one. that way the air velocity, and plugging up possibilities are kept to a minimum.
money spent on "1 extra vent for each main steam line is never wasted"--nbc0 -
can you clairfy?
nbc -- can you edit/clarify this a bit? where should the +1 vent go? on the main? dispersed across rads?
how did you come to consider this policy? was it based on something I said or calculated?1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

clarification
it's just a way to say that you can never have too much venting. i sense that so many people are pinching their pennies, when it come to installing venting, that they can end up with inadequate venting, in spite of careful calculations. also not to be forgotten is the volume of air in the steam chest of the boiler which must be let out. some old boilers look massive in that regard. i just want people to feel good about buying enough vents, so that even if one less would have worked, they are not to worry!
second most important expenditure.....the good low pressure gauge!! --nbc0 -
corrected sheet
there was an error in the sheet i posted last night, it was not editable. I have uploaded a new sheet (see signature for download link). my apologies.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

OpenOffice version uploaded
For those that don't have a working version of Excel. I have posted an OpenOffice version of the file as well. OpenOffice can be downloaded 100% FREE from www.openoffice.org. (You only need to "custom" install "Calc" if you only want "Excel" functionality)
Unfortunately, the files do not work with Google Documents.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

updated worksheet
-- Added 4-1/2in pipe as an available option in the pipe-size pulldown.
-- Added note on Gorton Recommendation page for conversion of Gorton#2 to Gorton#1 and Hoffman75 and Hoffman76.
FYI, 1pc Gorton #2 is equal to- ~4pcs of Gorton #1
- ~2pcs of Hoffman 75
- ~3pcs of Hoffman 76 vacuum
