No heat call, about 45 minutes south of me. I get there to find the place pretty warm, and a odd 'smell' in the air. Almost immediately I get a ache in the back of my head, and as I look into the kitchen I notice the gas range with all 4 burners on high and the gas oven on full blast, door open. I let the place air out and explain that is a great way to not wake up...it was that way all night. as for the no heat call, air bound coil on a hydro-air unit.

    That stove

    was way out of adjustment. You were smelling aldehydes, and ANY time you have aldehydes you have CO!

    My own stove was the first thing I ever tested when I got my analyzer. It was over 1100 PPM CO/AF.

    Get thee back to that house with your analyzer and test that puppy. I know what you're going to find!

    return trip

    Fortunately, the manway gasket is dumping water and I have to schedule a return trip. I did not bring my analyzer because I knew this was a coil issue and have already tested the boiler. Good idea to adjust it but will explain it is still not a heat source....

    You can bet

    they'll use the stove for heat again. Test it!

    I once went to a neighbor's house for a reason I have forgotten. When she opened the door, the aldehyde smell hit me in the face. I had her shut the stove down and open the windows, got my analyzer and it was over 2500 PPM! Some adjustments took care of that.

    Several years later, this was the house where I first met The Lovely Naoko.
