I was tending a no heat call on a 6+ year old IBC VFC 15-150 Mod-Con Boiler that the company I work for installed at a house in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver, BC.  I serviced the boiler (cleaned heat exchanger) which looked pretty clean considering how long it had been in service previously. But it had an unusual ignition problem that wasn't responding to what I thought it should according to their technical manual and what I had heard from one of their tech support guys. So about 5:30 last night I called the owner of the company's cell phone (they are based in Vancouver BC) and he happened to be almost home.

He asked me a few questions and decided he would go back to his shop, pick me up a part to try and meet me back at the house. It didn't happen to be that part but we tried a few other things and eventually got the boiler working and running properly.

He was supposed to go to a school function for his daughter which he probably missed most or all of for this service call - he spent about 3 hours with me committed to getting this thing up and running, of which I also learned quite a bit about how these things work.  I also know he applies this same consistency and committment to getting other IBC Boilers that  have been installed accross Canada in troubleshooting them with the odd problem they encounter with his in house technicians/engineers.

So I must say I owe a big thanks to Bruce MacGowan of IBC.
