L or M above ground....
K or l below.
I use primarily M in my systems, but know people from back east who use nothing less than L. Not sure why but oh well...

How I remember
what to use:
M - Most installers
L - Limited use
K - Knuckleheads or government work8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour
Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab0 -
M for sure
All of the contractors I've worked for used to use Type M exclusively, but since I've been working for the University, everyone uses Type L in the trades dept. I'll use either, whatever's available to get the job done.0 -
Here's a trivia question
While on the topic of pipe thickness, does the paper thin pipe of a baseboard element emit more or less heat then K,L or M? Say you were to take a foot of K and put the Aluminum things on and measured the BTU'S. Would it be different then the element makers pipe?0 -
I use L
I'm not sure why it's just a habit I got into long ago. Not even sure where I picked it up. M always seemed flimsy to me I guess. It sure is a lot easier to cut and ream though. ;-)0 -
I would guess
