Noisy Vapor Equalizer Valve

I have a steam heat pipe which runs from the floor to ceiling in the bedroom of my apartment. Near the top is a vapor equalizer valve which gets very noisy when it turns on. Is there a way to make it quieter? Is it safe to wrap it in something to lessen the noise?

noisy vent?
i presume you are refering to some sort of air vent on a riser pipe in your apartment? is your system 1-pipe or 2-pioe steam?
noisy air vents often indicate excess pressure [and energy waste] in the whole system, can you find out what your system pressure is? ideal pressure is 8 ounces.
why not make some enquiries with the management and see if some maintainace has been deferred". when you have more specific information, we can help more with that noise.--nbc0
