Homeowners version
I use HVAC-Calc. They have a homeowners version for something like $49.

The guy that designed the program is usually the guy that answers the phone when you call. Don Sleeth Great guy and great support through the years.0 -

HVAC-Calc
I used HVAC-Calc to do my building. Bought the 3 month license and learned how to use it during my commuting times on USAir. It calculated 160,000 BTU for my design conditions and that is what I installed. This was half the estimates provided by the local contractors and was the correct number.
It allows you to play what-if and see for example how more insulation on the North wall will affect the heat loss. Or insulating the basement walls.
Worth getting the program in my opinion.0
