Hi

I have an attic I want to heat.  The size is about 27 ft by 27 ft, A-frame roof.  My system is steam radiators.  My attic ceiling/roof is well insulated and the floor is insulated as well. (Blown in insulation in the floor and rolls of insulation in the ceiling.  My question is how big of a steam radiator do I need for that room?  Thank you for your help.

Judy

    Hey Jude

    couldn't resist ;-)

What you need to do is have a "heat-loss calculation" done on that attic. There are enough variables that it really can't be done online. when the calc is done you'll know exactly how much heat you need, and can then select a radiator.

    Radiator size?

For a 27 x 27 ft room, would one actually want one "big" radiator, or, say, two smaller ones? I do not have steam, but my grandfather did and in their largest room, they had two smaller ones, probably to get more even heat distribution. Of course, adding steam radiators to an existing house may be enough of a challenge that one may be trouble enough. ;-)

    Depends on the room

Radiators should be on outside walls. If there is only one outside wall, that where the radiator(s) should go. If there is more than one outside wall, I'd definitely use two radiators.
