Seriously bummed.....
For some (unknown) reason the U of Colorado did not join in to the contest this year.
Now, I am split about who to vote for because I suspect that Dan Foley AND Dave Yates are both involved in mentoring the student teams. Anyone else from the wall helping out in DC?
Regardless, it is great from the standpoint of showing off the state of the art technology as it pertains to alternative energy. Every body wins, but only one team takes home the first coveted place trophy.
May the best team win!
Thanks for the link HR.

Mark I share your angst
U of MD did not participate this year either. I worked down at the Solar Decathalon this year as a volunteer. They made me a greeter. I got a badge that said "EXPERT, and walked around handing out literature and maps and answered questions. I had a BLAST talking to people from all over the country. All had ideas and information to share. I'm not rooting for any one college in particular, but am rooting against Germany since they stole first place from University of MD on the last day of the competition last SD. Those stinking sauerkraut eaters. I heard Germany spent $ 800,000 on their house this competition. Compare that to MD's last house when they went over budget at 150,000. If Germany takes it again they will have to put on a spending cap to level the playing field. WW0 -
Good for you Wayne...
I agree with you regarding the need to limit the cost factor. They should be doing "out of the box" thinking, but should be limited to say a cost factor that is 1.5 or 2 times conventional construction costs (PLUS the cost of transportation etc)
Showing technology that is not available "0ff shelf" is interesting, but what good is it to the consumer who is going there for ideas to apply to their own situation, which is why most people are going there in the first place?
I know it promotes and sets seed for future uses, but there SHOULD be some limitation, or point degradation for using technology that is not currently available to the public.

solar clothes dryer
how expensive is a clothesline, for those 10 loads of washing ?
great contest. this [and the eco-electric car race] is what all the universities should be doing, instead of spending mega-bucks on football!--nbc0
