When....
Cast iron cost less than bronze :-)
The general thought process in the field is, "The water mains in the street are cast iron, so it must be OK to use cast iron pumps..."
The other thought process is, "Heck, if it last for 5 years, I can AFFORD to replace it every 5 years, and still be $ ahead"
You, I and others know differently, but that's what people in the field think.
Education is our first most important job.

You are all missing the point! JOB SECURITY!! If you install a cast pump then you get to charge for more often system cleanings, replacing pumps.......
