I know at least a couple of new steam systems went in around here over the past few years. How did they work out? I am curious as to how cost effective they were in installation and in operation. I am also curious if the rads were new or used. I am not asking for specific numbers here I am asking for a yeah I would do it again or a it was just to say we did it and so the home owner could have a new toy.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

Well worth it...
We replaced a 50 year-old boiler last year with a Burnham Megasteam, and cut our oil consumption in half. Combined with the fact that oil prices also were cut in half, we spent a quarter of the previous year.
Also, the old boiler looked like it came from Freddy Krueger's basement and had a lot of water hammer. Although pitching the (original) radiators helped a lot with that. All vents were replaced as well.
Still haven't insulated the mains but hopefully I'll get to that before winter and use even less oil this season.
It think it should pay for itself in less than 5 years...0 -
No I am talking from the ground up new
I am referring to installing a new steam system from scratch in a new home. I am well aware of the benefits of replacing a steam boiler with a modern well sized and designed boiler. Its what I feed my kids by doing. lolCost is what you spend , value is what you get.
