cast iron demo?
Having never demo a larger c/i boiler what is the best way to break it apart? Skin is off and bolts removed. Old amstd 1mbtu. Need to carry it up and out. Stairs are strong, not our backs.
Thanks

Chisel and lump hammer
Wear heavy duty gloves . Cause missing the chisel once can hurt like hell . I try to split it between the sections low , near the smaller push nipples at the bottom . They pry out easier than starting at the upper , larger push nipples . Split it evenly on each side . Good luck on the project Steve0 -
Cast iron
disassemble as the others have said. Plank the stairs, hang a chain fall or attach a come a long and swing or drag the sections up. If this is not possable find a youngster and give him a heafty sledge hammer. Carry up the pieces. This ia a dirty messy proposition, be sure and protect the building from soot infiltrating up stairs or you will have a much bigger clean up.
Broke up many many boilers this way.... when I was young....0 -

Peter Gabrial said it best. "I wanna be, your sledge hammer!"
I start with a 90# jack hammer and make weak points, then introduce mr sledge. Just start pounding and it will all be over soon...the longer you wait & research, the longer this will take. Just do it...
