According to a color chart I have from Wexler Services in NYC, the color to use is Standpipe & Sprinkler "Cardinal Red"

    Has anyone ever heard of a requirement in NYC that standpipe pipe risers be painted a certain color, and if so where is it and what color?

    That would be RED and it is in the paint store. Outside just the caps have to be red unless it is a combo with sprinklers off it then the caps are to be yellow. You can pick up the brush at the paint store also.

    UNLESS HE is not refering to " fire " standpipes. there are also heating standpipes.

    This refers to fire standpipe piping exposed inside a building hallway.
