Sorry to hear of your loss
Dan - I'll always remember your story of frequently visiting your mom in the nursing home when her mind was failing and singing old songs and telling her she was the prettiest girl at the dance just so you could see her smile.0 -
thank you
Dan,
Even during a situation that truly sucks, you make it pleasant. My sincere condolences on the passing of your mom.
Many years ago you started signing everything "hug your kids" and it came at a time that was maybe a little turbulent for me and I needed to do just that, hug my kids. For that I will always be grateful. You rock!
Now I sit here reading about your mom and dad, whom I never knew except through you. They had to be great people with a wicked sense of family and great humor. I'm thankful that you had the chance to share the great times with your brother! I hope when my time comes my kids sit around and do the same thing.
Oh, and BTW, I'll be chatting with my parents later too. THANKS!

A parents legacy
is their children, their character, and the life they lead. If you are an example, then she has a great legacy.
My condolences, and prayers are with you, and I am happy that her passing was while surrounded by family.
Each day that passes, you exemplify the qualities that made her a great woman and mother. It is easy to understand your admiration for her as many admire you.
May you all find peace.

From an Irish tombstone...
Dan,
This is from an Irish tombstone and I just think they got it right:
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal...
My mom hangs on oblivious to her surroundings, we pray for a peaceful ending.
Please accept my deepest condolences...

A Hole in Your Heart
My mother died about 5 years ago. I don't like Mothers Day anymore. It leaves a hole in your heart, that you learn to walk around the rest of your life.0 -
memories
make the passing event so much more meaningful
Reading these messages, so many of them written on the 20th which was my mom's 96th birthday make me realize even more how lucky I have been to have her for so many years and up til very recently was quite clear of mind, Sorry about the loss but thankful she could go in peace. Ruthe0 -

Condolences to you and yours...
This was from my Mom's mass card when she passed two years ago...
I shall pass through this world but once.
Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I
can show to any human being...
Let me do it now.
Let me not defer it or neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.
I think our moms may have been kindred spirits...
Take care,
JMB

Dan...
... You know you are in large part made from the building blocks your Mom gave you from herself. You'll never need to look far to know what She would think or feel. Be comforted knowing She'll always be close.

Thanks to all of you.
We had a wonderful week celebrating my mother's life. We were all together for days. We told stories and remembered the good times and we laughed. We remembered Mom for all that she gave us, for all that she took from us, and for all that remained at the end. She's home now and with my Dad; and they will be together forever, smiling and laughing at it all.
Thanks.Retired and loving it.0 -

So sorry to hear about your loss Dan. Mom's are irreplaceable. I'm so pleased to hear your spending your energies and emotions on remembering the good times. I have no doubt Mom would have wanted it that way. God bless you and yours.

Hey Dan.....
Can you share with us one of your favorite memories? So we might know a little of your Mom.

Sure.
On beautiful summer days, such as the one on which she passed, she'd sit in her backyard on a folding web chair. She'd have her feet up on a picnic bench and she'd be reading. She read a lot. I'd go to see her and she'd look up from the book and smile. She'd have an apple in her left hand. Always an apple.
"What are you reading?" I'd ask, and she'd get all excited and tell me the entire plot and what had happened in the book up to that point. And then she'd smile and say, "All I need is a good book and an apple."
It became one of our family jokes. All you need is a good book and an apple. So simple.
Thanks for asking, Jim.Retired and loving it.0 -
Ahh....
So she passed to you the love of a good book. And probably the desire to create and share them also.
Sounds like a wonderful person.

She was.
Very simple in her needs and she appreciated everything. I think that was her greatest gift to me. An understanding of, and an appreciate for, Enough.

Moms
Dan,
Moms are the ones who were always interested in what you said when perhaps no one else would. Moms are the ones who should always write your resume for you if you want to get that job. Moms always seem to understand where you are in good times and bad because they've been there. When your parents pass, you really know you're on your own -just the way they too, found themselves. They're both fine now, I'm sure. And you'll be fine too since it seems clear to us on this side of the Wall that they did a pretty darn good job leaving you prepared to be in the position they held for so long.
Condolences and peace to you and yours.
