Is it possible to zone 2 pipe steam heating system in our 106 year old house? Our house contains 3 floors and I would like to install thermostats on each floor to so we can establish different settings per floor, as each floor has different heat requirements depending on time of day, exterior wall elevation, types of rooms, heat rising throughout day, etc. Goal is to make house more comfortable and conserve energy. Other steps of insulating attic, adding storm windows are underway.

Steam Zoning
Yes it can be done, just make sure who you hire ,knows how . There may be alot of heavy pipe work and expensive valves ..There was an error rendering this rich post.

We do this in larger buildings
by using thermostatic radiator valves that respond to room temperature. This way each room becomes its own "zone" and does not overheat.
