Uni Match water feeder

Most of the steam boiler Uni Match water feeders I see are installed vertically or on their side. Many don't have a manual bypass. The installation instructions specifically call for a bypass and the unit to be installed in the upright position. And yet the local code official has slapped his seal of approval on the boiler.
Does the orientation of the feeder affect the operation?

Local code Officials.
I was actually spcifically told by a local code official that "I Was Crazy To Install A Manual Bypass" as the unit has one built in by the manufacturer. By pushing the button you manually bypass the unit. I still install a bypass line/valve. As far as mounting goes, I always mount with wiring housing mounted on top in a horizontal position. Do not know if it makes a diference as valves is a motor actuator.
