dripping riser

Hi all I am drippping a 1 1/4 riser that feeds two rads on the second floor is it okay to drip it at the base of the riser and connect the runout to the top of the main at 45 degrees because on page 87 of lost art of steam heating Dan likes turn the takeoff tee down for optimum performance but I really dont have the room for this teqnique and I dont like to do anything different than what Dan says unless I consult you guys first any help is greatly appreciated Charlie
