Chicago rod, or Frisco rod - as they pertain to surveying, would any of you have the historical info? Just curious? How they came to be named such, is it somehow related to the three major surveys done across NA in the 1800's?

A Chicago Rod is a unit of land measure that is extremely crooked.
A Frisco Rod is a unit of land measure that constantly bends to the left.

thanks -
but the reason I ask is that here in Canada the terms are not known - but still show up in various training materials. Even to my son inlaw (geomatics engineer)- the terms are unknown. Which leads me to wonder if they have significant historical importance dating from the railway construction days of the late 1800's. Just thinking out loud I guess.0 -
