Formula question
I'm stumped on a formula that is mentioned in Taco's TD documents and in Siggy's Morden Hydronic heating book which is in regard to figuring "feet of head" in part of the formula you have to raise the flow rate to the 1.75 power (f 1.75) For example in Taco's document they have a flow rate of 5 gpm raised to the 1.75 power which comes out to 16.719, Any idea how they came up with this number? I know 5 to the second power would read 5 x 5 = 25, maybe i'm missing something?0 -
The 1.75th power is derived from the Hazen-Williams flow friction loss calculation. For the real world most engineers use the power of 2, since that adds a bit of safety factor and is calculator friendly. Most texts say that head loss rises as the square of the flow rate.0
