No Problems so far. Sold about 2 dozen of them. They work just like a automatic vent damper for gas.

Fields oil vent damper experience ?

Does anyone have any experience with the Fields Oil Vent Damper (OVD)? The motorized damper that closes the flue off when the burner is not running. Am considering installing one to reduce heat loss up the chimney during standby. I wondered if they were reliable. (Do they always rotate OK, do the switches work OK, any problems, pros, cons, etc.)

After years of dealing with broken vent dampers, I've reached the point where I consider them badly engineered and unreliable.

I come across so many boilers where the damper has been removed or by-passed. Whatever money they save in boiler efficiency is soon outstripped by money spent on service calls and replacement dampers.

Many installers will throw the damn thing away when they install a new boiler. Not a bad idea.
