Steam returns - copper last longer?

I also like to have a valve above each wet return drop (under the water line) so I can POWER FLUSH the entire return under street pressure. I prefer gate valves...but can't always get them....you know. Mad Dog

I'm quoting a job to drop dry steam returns down and make a wet return. I'm Ok with proper piping techique but I'm wondering if it's best to use copper or steel. I know from experience that steel will eventually corrode. The pipes will have a wall in front of them so the best I can do is install a cleanout on the end. Also, I can handle the expansion of the copper. Will copper last longer?0 -
Yes
I'd use copper as it will outlast steel in that location. But I'd still install a cleanout plug to flush the line if needed.
