comes up when someone with an fired oil pin boiler/aquabooster setup needs a mew boiler. The cost of an triple pass/ indirect combo is a stumbling block in many cases. What do you do? Sell them another pin boiler? A flat plate is the best solution, if it allows them to upgrade to a triple pass now and face the tank situation at some point down the road.
Is it the optimal solution?Probably not,but it's cheap, efficient and effective

    And...

With the price of 2 pumps, controls and a flat plate HX...you could have paid for a REAL indirect...with FAR better heat loss characteristics when finished. JCA

if you're starting from scratch, you're absolutely correct. But with an already installed booster all you need is the HX and a circ or ZV on the boiler side, you already have the tank and bronze circ.If not for the increased electrical consumption and the heatloss from the flat plate, this might be a better setup than a conventional indirect

    Rob.

Like Taco says..."Do it once...do it right".

It depends on circumstances, but in MOST cases, I would say to just go indirect. Dollars to doughnuts, they'll be better off. MHO. Chris
