Hello Mitch, this should help.
Required Pool Heater = Q1+ 0.5(Q2)
Q1= 8.33V(Tf-Ti)/hr
V= pool gals or (LxWxDx7.5=USgals)
Tf= required pool temp *f
Ti= initial pool temp *f
hr= pool heat up time (24 hr for periodic use, 48 hr for constant use)
Q2= 10.5A(Tp-Ta) (Pool heat loss@ 3.5 mph wind)
A= pool surface area (ft2)
Tp= desired pool temp (*f)
Ta= ambiant temp (*f)
QT= 8.33V(Tf-Ti)/hr + 5.25A(Tp-Ta)
Eg: 18000 gal pool@440 ft2 area maintained @ 80*f
QT= 8.33(18000)(80-65)/48 + 5.25(440)(80-65)
= 46856 +34650 = 81506 Btu/hr Heat Load

Had it and can't find it
Can someone post the calculation for heat loss on a pool? It was here several times and I had it but cannot find it.
