What the flux?

Here is where **** (what the flux) would work! What eats flux? I need to soak this head in something as the last guy did not flush or clean anything. The goop on the float came from up in the head, and the float was totally stuck in this stuff. Did I mention I hate glycol? Just need to not let any cats in here!
