you should never have to build that much pressure to begin with. Bet it will run with a Vaporstat on 8 ounces or so. If it doesn't, you have an air venting problem somewhere.

I'd also bet the condensate return pump is not needed. Most of the ones out there are unnecessary- the Vaporstat reduces the "B" dimension. If I'm right, you could do away with the extra F&T traps too.

Take some pics of some radiators, both with and without traps. Also include any manufacturers' names you find on the system's original hardware. and include some shots of the boiler area and the ends of the steam mains. This will help us ID your system.

    Two Pipe Steam System

    I am currently working on a project in which we replaced a steam boiler in kind on a two pipe system. The steam system was originally installed as a vapor system, however over the years several F&T traps were installed on each of the four main condensate return lines prior to entering the condensate pump.

    We noticed that some of the heating devices did have local traps but a majority of them did not.

    The boiler cycles on and off every three minutes. Steam pressure is built up to 3 1/2-4 PSI and within 3 minutes drops down to 1 PSI. Steam is not existing from the vent at the condensate pump.

    Any help on trouble-shooting were we may be losing pressure?
