Hydrocare & X Scale water softner systems,do they work?

Two products are advertised to reduce and eliminate old build up of calcium, lime and water softening in home water systems.
Hydro Care-uses a method that clamps onto watersupplyline
and plugs into an electrical outlet. Cost $500-$700.
X Scale-a fitting that is placed in line to do the same as above. cost $500 for 3/4 inch water supply line.
I am considering these products verses the traditional water softner installations. Any feedback will help.

I have had this argument
with Mark Eatherton several times concerning these devices. I know these units do not have a third party rating...UL or other. But I Know Mark believes what he says is true, so I disconnected my water softer about 3 months ago and connected a plug in frequency unit. My water is 10 grains hard, which isn't very hard I know, but I am running it through a Navien tankless water heater. So far so good. But 3 months at 10 grains isn't long enough. So I cant say yet but if you decide to try them, let us know your results.0
