dunkirk q90 noise problems

Have a Dunkirk Q90 boiler direct vent. It is vented with pvc pipe up inside old chimney approx 25ft worth with two 90degree bends also. Outside the house whenever the boiler is venting you can hear a whining noise outside the house. What is the best way to reduce/eliminate the noise.
Thank you in advance.

    More info

Have you just noticed this noise? Has the combustion been set up properly and professionally? Do you know what size of Q90 you have? If it's a 175 or 200 and was manufactured before Feb. 2006, there was a burner change that could be part of the problem. What kind of a noise is it?

    Q90 leaker

Recently had a 3 year old Q90-100 spring a drip from the exchanger - next morning (14 hours) it had cracked a full 3 inches and was spraying water on the ventor. Anyone else experience any exchanger leaks with these units?

thanks for the response. The sound is a metalic whining type noise, my first thought was that it was coming from the power vent. Did not know about the burner switch out. Is noise one of the problems addressed in the burner change. The noise has been there from the start. Didn't think it was a big deal at first but it can be annoying. Thanks

    Vent size?

I hope they increased the PVC vent to 3" off the boiler to the termination. You never mentioned how old the boiler is and what did the installer say?

    Q-90 noise problem

The impeller on some of the earlier models had a shift the the position of the impeller itself.(slopping off it's original location. The impeller will slightly hit the base of the housing and wine. I believe you can disassemble a check for wear. As stated above you can contact the Dunkirk tec. support and they can give you a history on upgrades etc...

Some of the Q90 boiler line have seen updated Inducer assemblies due to noise problems. 90-100's within the warranty period can receive another inducer. A 90-200 should not exhibit the same "bearing noises".

thanks for the info. I have the q90-100. approx 2yrs old so i believe replacement of inducer would be outside of warranty. I guess if the noise can't be lived with then depending on cost the inducer would have to be replaced

    I had the same problem

with a Q90-100 we installed. Changing out the ventor under warranty solved the noise.

Has it been like this since the beginning or has it developed over time?

The noise has been there from the beginning. I just did not think of it to much at the time.

One more question. Is it vented with 2" or 3" PVC up the chimney?

Since this has been ongoing, i would call technical support at the factory. Try 1800-228-9364. You would need to have a contractor involved to receive the part and install it for you. Based onthe history reviewed here, I might think someone there can assist you. try x 6525.
