power vent flame sense rod

the flame sense rod on a power vented water heater by using heat from the burner or current flow?

If it is a true flame rod then it is always DC current flow. A flame rod is just a steel rod inserted into the burner or the pilot flame. An A/C voltage is applied to the rod and the flame rectifies the A/C voltage to D/C.
If the amount of rectification is above the minimum for the ignition control then the flame stays on. If not off it goes.0
