Now they need not to get a lot of rain or a quick warm up. (ice melt)

    Could be dicey with the forecast snow and wind over the next couple days though. Those ice jams are sure creating havoc !!

    The Red river basin on the border of Minnesota and the Dakotas is a geological joke on us. . Its a vast low spot from ancient Lake Agazziz of glacial times. It drains to the North, to Winnepeg and ultimately to Hudson Bay.
    But, Canada is colder and the flow is blocked...almost every year. The headwaters of the river [ a tributary called the Bois de Sioux] are amazingly close to those of the Minnesota River, that flows safely [mostly] south. About a mile. There is even a deep former glacial channel. Boy, if ever a big relief pipeline were called for!
