did they do anything like paint the radiators or somethng? Perhaps the smell is coming from the basement. Old tank removed, old line blown out or removed, no spill occured during comnversion? just some thoughts

Gentlemen!
I recently did an oil to gas steam conversion. The system operates perfectly, but the customer keeps complaining about a randomly occuring "oily" smell coming from the rads. I have skimmed, cleaned (with cascade), skimmed and drained the system 4 times. Each time the customer says its better, but 7 to 10 days later they claim the smell is back. I am lost at this point as there is nothing showing up when I skim. I even boiled some of each skim, which revealed no foam. Any suggestions? any at all?0 -
Try flushing out
the boiler AND the wet return lines (even if you replaced them too) with a hose under street pressure. Then skim it again. That system probably had a bunch of oily sludge in it that the new boiler loosened, and that's what you smell.
