you can just stab a regular 1/8" dia. thermometer in them ( i usually wet the stem first) or use a foot-ball needle type probe attached to a gage. The term Pete's comes from P/T or pressure temperature.

tell me how a petes plug works? It looks like you remove the cap and insert a probe style temp guage. Is it really that simple?
